"The vision Robert and I had for the wedding was "adventurer's tavern." We're both big tabletop gamers, especially into Dungeons & Dragons. The quintessential beginning of any new adventure game begins in a medieval-esque tavern. That's what every wedding is--embarking on a brand new adventure together for life. So, we channeled that concept in every decision we made. As for the vision for myself, I wanted to feel like I stepped out of an avant-garde wedding magazine." - bride & groom
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The most important thing to Robert and me while planning was to make sure the wedding was fun, not only for us but for our guests as well. We wanted a wedding that when people recalled it, they would say, "Your wedding was the best I've ever been to." I'm proud to say that's been the case, everyone, even our vendors, have told us we were their favorite wedding. We splurged on two things. First, the honeymoon to Walt Disney World. Second, the wedding photographer and videographer team—Purity Weddings. We skipped out on wedding favors, a fancy, tiered cake, transportation, photo-booths, and hard liquor.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
1. During the first dance, the power went out at the tavern. Robert and I were swaying in silence for only a moment when suddenly one person started singing the Imperial March from Star Wars, and then the rest of the guests joined in. Robert and I laughed as we danced along. The power came back on shortly after, and we finished our actual song. However, Robert and I consider the spontaneous acapella of the Imperial March to be our actual first dance song.
2. When Uptown Funk began playing, Robert and I threw down the most awesome dance-off ever. All the guests circled around us, cheering as we cut a rug.
3. There's a long-time joke between Robert and one of his groomsmen, Trevor, of when they once recorded a video of the two of them singing A Whole New World. Per the request of Trevor to our DJ, the two reenacted their video live for all of us to watch. Watching the two of them dramatically serenade one another was absolutely hysterical, and I think I can safely say that most of the guests, including me, were crying laughing.
