"The wedding concept was inspired by Old Dutch Masters' paintings. Since we both have a background in the arts, it felt right to tie the wedding into that aesthetic. We wanted to bring a sense of unkempt elegance to the event. We frequently found ourselves trying to find more quirky options that reflected a moody, fall vibe. Even though we both live in New York now, it was important to have the wedding in California where we met, and where a lot of our friends and family are still located. San Juan Capistrano felt like a great city to bring in that sense of age and history that our oil painting theme also evoked. We wanted a place that didn't feel too formal but allowed us enough flexibility in our design. We loved Franciscan Gardens from the first moment that we saw it. The indoor/outdoor spaces were gorgeous and gave us a lush backdrop with all the foliage to keep it from feeling stuffy. The exposed brick inside the venue for Cocktail Hour felt appropriately New-York and modern while the outside felt like a whimsical garden party. It's proximity to the San Juan Capistrano mission was also an added bonus! We could do photos at both locations easily." - Bride & Groom
